I was recently inspired regarding self-discipline. Self-discipline has usually been a topic in which I talk about what I am going to do, instead of what it is I actually do. I am going to control my eating, however I currently struggle.

What’s really got me inspired is a video equating self-discipline to self-love. (beinspiredchannel.com “The One Thing Only 1% of People Do_TRY IT FOR 21 DAYS and success will follow!.mp4) Do you love yourself enough to not eat that extra slice of pizza? Do you love yourself enough to endure 20 minutes of cardio? Do you love yourself enough to read that book? These are all questions that I have had to seriously ask myself.

It was also told to me recently, I wish I knew who said this originally so I could give them credit, “We must all suffer one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.” I need not explain the pain of regret to most, I am in prison and let me tell you it is not prison I regret, it was my lack of discipline which led me to prison. I like this quote because it is true, it is true of you and me and everyone else.

It was Will Smith who said once “You cannot win the war against the world if you cannot win the war against your own mind.” I love this quote, it serves as a reminder that in order to make the biggest impact, one must be ready to do so. One must prepare to do big things, they do not happen by accident. No, you must position yourself properly, you must endure discipline and embrace the love of telling yourself “no.”

So the next time your impulses try to take over for that fast food, skipping a workout, trucking off your study time, a cute guy…tell yourself the following:

“Self, I love you too much to let you do this, if I let you get away with it you’ll feel bad about it later, I love you too much to allow that.”

(FYI- The website above was on a video I watched in school, the video is named above. I apologize for not giving the full link, however, I am in prison and have only access to what my college professor brings in for coursework…no, we don’t get internet access in prison….:-) )

With Love
