I was recently quarantined due to no fault of my own, along with many others (what's the point of wearing PPE if we get quarantined anyway?), and we were fed expired Frito's Corn Chips. In fact, the bag expired February 11, 2020, 9 months ago.
It's not the chips that bothers me, keep the damned things for all I care, it's the point. It's the situation. It's the unpreparedness that the state is exhibiting that bothers me, it's the focus on safety and forgetting that humans are residing here, not animals. We can read simple things like "Best By" dates and also understand that nobody cared enough to check if the food they're feeding us is even safe to eat using basic metrics like expiration dates.
Why bother quarantining anyone if you aren't even worried about their health? Expired food can kill. So what's the difference...
With Love
Ruth

Ruth. The food is not expired. It is just past the BEST BUY date.
ReplyDeleteManufacturers use a Best Buy date as a gimmick for people to buy their product again when the product is fine.
They don’t want you just let there product to sit around. They want you to buy more now than wait till you use up of what you got.
There are documentaries on this subject and articles.
So my advice is chill and be careful of what you are saying in regards to what you think DOC is doing. You don’t want to be on their bad side.
Thank you that really helps, advice received and who are you, I really want to know.
ReplyDeleteI do not wish to let you know my name at this moment. But I do know all of the writers and have spent a significant time with all of them to know them pretty well. In fact I had hours of conversations with them.
DeleteValerie I do know you are Ruth’s mom(not biological) but still his mom.
I have reasons for not giving out my name and I promise to give you a reason at another date.
But as I promised you before that I will be decent and respectful on all my comments.
If if I disagree or have a different opinion.
Anyways, here is a good link from the USDA about product labeling. You can read it and share it with Ruth since you talk to him on the phone. This way he can feel better about those Fritos that was given to him and not worry that he is getting something that is going to kill him or that DOC doesn’t care.
He needs to remember that DOC doesn’t have to offer snack foods to inmates. They probably do get them because it is cost effective when they are past the Best Buy date.
When DOC feels like the public is misinformed or inmates are being difficult, they could just cut out offering snack foods. Let’s not offend the people who feeds the inmates.
Just saying.
